This is a set of notes about one valley in Cartago province, written by somebody who first came here for two days and has been coming back for years.

The Orosi valley gets a paragraph in most guides to Costa Rica, usually mentioning that the church is old, and then the book moves on to Arenal or Monteverde. So visitors arrive with a morning allocated, drive the loop too fast, and leave having seen a view and a ruin.

The bias here is towards going slowly. Which side of the valley to sleep on, when the cloud comes down, what the coffee harvest actually looks like, and which of the well-known stops repay the time and which are twenty minutes and a photograph.
